Child in class

There is a national shortage of school counselors. More than one-fifth of public high schools in the nation don’t have a school counselor, according to the Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights. School counselors help students with academics in schools, college counseling along with emotional wellbeing. They are vital and the recommendations are to have at least one counselor for every 250 students, but in the US the the typical school counselor to student ratio is 1 to 464. You can find the ratio in your state here.

Work to change this by writing to your state legislator and governor about the need for more funding for school counselors.
